Office Assistant 1 Job Openings - Kenai AK
The selected applicant for this position will be expected to act as the receptionist for the District Attorney's Office in Kenai and is the first contact for most visitors and agencies. The incumbent will have contact with various law enforcement agencies. This position also provides back up to the Office Assistant II and may have to cover opening and closing of case files from time to time. This position must also perform other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate should have the following demonstrated strengths: Thorough understanding of clerical functions; Strong computer skills; Enthusiasm for what you do; Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions while remaining calm, organized, and accurate; Positive and outgoing; Ability to deal with angry and upset individuals in a professional manner; Strong oral communications; and Openness and flexibility in your approach to developing new knowledge and skills. The selected applicant will be required to obtain access to the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN).

High school diploma or the equivalent.
Six months of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocational education equal one month of experience).

A Career Readiness Certificate with ACT WorkKeys® scores of skill level 3 or higher in Locating Information, skill level 3 or higher in Applied Mathematics, and skill level 3 or higher in Reading for Information will substitute for the high school diploma and required experience.

Special Note:
"High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

ACT WorkKeys® skill testing and career readiness certification is available at the Department of Labor and Workforce Development's Alaska Job Centers.

Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular Alaska driver's license and be 18 years of age or older.

Some positions in this class may require skill in typing. Recruitment and selection may include this requirement.

Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). The selected applicant will be required to obtain access to APSIN. A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN. The incumbent is required to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check of state and FBI records. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, applicants are required to disclose all felony and misdemeanor convictions, regardless of the occurrence date. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance. An applicant with a felony or misdemeanor criminal conviction will not be offered an interview.
