Coordinator, Communications Job Openings - Houston TX
Department: Communications Supervisor: VP, Communications Classification: Full Time/Exempt Summary: This role is responsible for handling and supporting a wide variety of duties pertaining to the overall baseball and business communications efforts of the Houston Astros. The coordinator works with various other departments, members of the media and with vendors. The coordinator also supports various responsibilities of the communications team, including the production of publications, game notes and press releases, the execution of gameday duties and more. The coordinator plays a significant role in the communication team’s efforts to strongly promote the Houston Astros players, executive team and front office staff as well as the initiatives of the various departments within the organization as a whole. Essential Functions:

Record all media requests for players, coaches and front office staff; Monitor media coverage throughout calendar year.

On game days, ensure that game notes, lineups and stats are placed in press box and delivered to the broadcast booths and clubhouses. Also, assist with creating lineups.

Responsible for issuing daily media credentials.

Contribute to game notes and press releases…includes writing, editing, proofreading.

Assist with facilitation of media requests for front office staff.

Support Sr Communications manager with creation and production of GameDay Magazine (including Write stories, edit and proofread content, creative input).

Assist with writing postgame notes after home games.

Oversee daily media clippings and minor league report.

Monitor Social Media and online content.

Assist with non-baseball duties for various departments, focusing mainly on marketing, foundation, sponsorship and ticket initiatives.

Write Offseason Notes every two weeks.

Media Guide duties: Write bios, edit and proofread, update history section, etc.

Handle media relations at various off-site events (charity events, player appearances, etc).

Support Sr Manager Communications on the planning and execution of the Winter Classic and Houston College Classic baseball tournaments (annually).

Write press releases for weekly Astroline Show + for other announcements.

Liaison for facilitation and install of press box artwork projects.

Qualifications: Required Competencies & Skills:
Strong writing ability.

Strong communications skills.

Ability to build productive relationships with co-workers and media members.

Experience in writing press releases, bios and in editing.

Strong desire to work in baseball.

Team player with the ability to get along with co-workers.

Willingness to work long hours and many weekends.

Positive, professional attitude in good times and bad.

Solid baseball knowledge preferred.

Ability to take constructive criticism.

Energetic, motivated individual with strong desire to learn and grow.

Flexibility and willingness to assist co-workers with their duties.

High integrity and character.

Ability to maintain a professional appearance at all times when representing the ballclub.

Transportation: Automobile with current driver’s license.

Fluent in Spanish is a plus.
Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s in communications, journalism, sports management or related field preferred

2+ years experience in related field. Sports or entertainment experience preferred

References/recommendations from current or former supervisors

Proficient in Indesign, Microsoft Word and Excel (preferred)

Work Environment:
Position will work in an office and stadium environment and with members of the media. The noise level is usually moderate but can be loud within the stadium environment, particularly on game days and/or during events.

Must be able to work in all types of outdoor weather conditions and within a fast-paced, stadium environment.
